What difficulty setting do you typically choose when starting a game?
I usually start off by picking the normal/medium difficulty. After I complete the game on that difficulty, I move up to the hardest difficulty. That is if the game has replay value.

Depends on the genre.
On more story driven games, like RPGs, I tend to just go for the easiest, though I think myself competent to enough to handle harder difficulties, but I almost always prefer to just focus on the story as my main source of entertainment, rather than a challenge.
For shooters, well, I play a lot of online shooters, so the difficulty is largely up to the people I play against.

depending on the game, i would pick easy level. take for instance, hitman absolution...i played this game countless times so i know what to expect and i usually play in hard mode to challange myself.

I usually play on normal, lol. If I set the game to "easy" I always end up ashamed for some reason, even though there's nothing to be ashamed about, since games are supposed to be fun, but oh well.

Depends. In skyrim f.eks, I play on Adept in the beginning, but later tune it up to Expert. The reason for this is that I can't get past even bandits on Expert without at least decent armor and weapons, so I tend to give the first 30 minutes an easy go to get me some.
